Making change in a school district is challenging, but making change in a substitute teacher program maybe almost impossible. At a recent SubSolutions conference in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Thomas Giard, Assistant Superintendent, and Mark Benigni, Superintendent of Meriden Public Schools presented on how they made a major change in just four short months and how they got buy-in from all parties – substitute teachers, administrators, permanent teachers, and office staff.

Dr. Benigni is the Superintendent of Meriden Public Schools. The district was recently recognized by the Commissioner of Education in Connecticut as creating a model district for the rest of the state (The CT Mirror, November 14, 2011).
