Hi,
Has anyone had any problem with feedback from teachers, learners and or adm support help? What about parents? When I ask for feedback its always, 'If we need you we'll call you.' 'We call you, we need you so that's your feedback.' ...at the end of the day though I am required of. The staff wants to know what I thought of my day. The staff wants to know if I have had any problems with their youth that day. I'm always professional, of winning more sub-teaching opportunities and its me that is always trying to look good in their eyes for asking me back and soon. What am I doing that can be better about winning and influencing the feedback that I need in order to make my practice better? Euroclydon 10/30/07

Hi Euroclydon -
When I subbed several years ago, there was precious little feedback. The district was in such need of subs, if a warm body showed up, they were grateful. At the same time, when I worked in accounting at a hospital, there wasn't much feedback either unless there was a problem.
So since I have retired from the hospital, I will be starting to sub again. I think of myself as self-employed and do my own evaluation. A university instructor I once had gave me the best advice to help myself improve. After each day of subbing, do a three column sheet, labeling one column "Things that went well" and the second, "Things that could have gone better", and the last, "Things I can do to make them better."
This has been so valuable to more or less do my own feedback. The STI book is loaded with good ideas for making things better. Good luck to you.

As a district we have a standard evaluation form dispersed to all our school sites. The evaluation form is shared among Substitutes, Teachers, Administration, and HR.
