What are the requirements for my district?

Each district in the United States has different requirements for their substitute teachers. To best find out your school district’s requirements, visit your school district webpage and search under Human Resources Department for substitute teacher information.

Do I need an access code?

At STEDI.org, you will see various places to enter an access code. If you don’t have an access code, you can just ignore this box.

How do I redeem an access code?

To redeem an access code click on "My Stuff" in the top colored bar.  It is found at the top right side of the page.  In this area you will see a place for a username and password (If you do not see this and are logged in you will need to click logout.)  Below the username and password is a section labeled Access Code.  Enter your access code here and click "Redeem for Purchase". You  walk through the checkout process and will then be able to access the online training.

How do I access the online training?

After you have purchased an online course, to access the course you will just need to log in at STEDI.org by clicking on "My Stuff" in the top colored bar.  It is found at the top right side of the page.  In the window that will pop up will be a place to enter your username and password.  Click Log In.  Under the section "My STEDI Materials" select "Study your courses"

Can I complete the training in one day?

It probably is possible to complete the training course in one day, but this isn’t recommended. It does take roughly 8-10 hours of studying to complete, but if you try to complete it all in one sitting, you will likely get frustrated and make unnecessary errors.

What score is my district looking for?

Many school districts require their substitute teachers to pay for, take, and pass the SubSkills Training Course. Most school districts require that their substitute teachers get an 85% composite score, but you will need to call your district offices or visit their webpage to be sure.

How do I print a SubDiploma?

To print your SubDiploma you will need to enter the SubAssessment section of the Assessment area.  There is a button near the Composite Score labeled "Print SubDiploma".  By clicking that button your SubDiploma will be automatically downloaded to your computer.  You are then able to print it from there.

What happens when I take the SubAssessment again and get a lower score in a section?

Nothing!  When you take the SubAssessment the highest score of each section is recorded.  Therefore, there is no penalty for trying to better your score in an area.

What if I have studied and still can’t achieve the composite score?

Each assessment allows you to take it a maximum of four times. If you still haven’t achieved the correct composite score, we can reset up to four attempts for $20. To get four additional attempts type "TestReset" in the access code area of the website. This will walk you through the checkout process. Send an email to Info@STEDI.org to tell us where you'd like these attempts applied. Title the email "Test Reset."

If you need further attempts after this, you will need to contact your school district offices.

Why are my scores high but I still don’t have an 85% composite score?

The SubAssessment is made up of five different assessments and the Classroom Management assessment is weighted 52% of the composite score. Likely if you don’t have the necessary composite score, but your scores are good, it is because your Classroom Management score isn’t high enough. You will want to aim for a 15/18 in Classroom Management.

Can we use The Substitute Teacher Handbook on the assessment?

The assessment is open book or open note, but remember that the assessment is timed so you won’t be able to spend much time reviewing the material once you have started an assessment.

Can I talk to someone at your office?

Absolutely! Feel free to contact the STEDI.org staff Monday – Friday 8 am - 4:30 pm MT at 1-800-922-4693. You are also welcome to email our staff at Info@STEDI.org.
